A Thursday After Lunch
My wife and
eleven-month old
daughter
were in an
armed robbery
today
at a drugstore.
She (my wife)
was buying
Aleve for my aching
neck, baby cold medicine,
and plastic bibs,
when some
loud asshole
announced
he had a gun
and screamed
"I don't care!
Get the drawer
Open!"
They (my wife
and daughter)
hid out
in the back
with the pharmacists
and, fortunately,
the guy
was in a hurry
and not interested
in prescription drugs.
I got a call
at work
as my wife was
pulling into the
parking lot behind our
apartment.
They were both okay,
but I
was flustered
anyway
and spent the rest
of the afternoon
imagining
one bullet
going through
my wife
and the stroller
and destroying
the part of my life
I truly love,
and how I
would find that
bastard
and destroy
him.
